Course description: This is a course on the use of naloxone for opioid overdose for first emergency responders, such as law enforcement officers.  The course will begin with an extensive discussion of the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of naloxone and its metabolites.  Also discussing significant precautions as well as absolute and relative contraindications to the use of naloxone for emergent treatment of opioid overdose by first responders.  The course will also discuss diagnosis of opioid overdose symptomatology and presentations.  We will discuss as well as hands on education regarding the use of multiple forms of naloxone delivery.  We will do hands-on training with nasal aerosol naloxone delivery.  At the end of the course the first responder will be able to understand the usages of naloxone, signs of opioid overdose and deployment and delivery of naloxone in the emergent situation.
